When the ground becomes a lavender-blue sky in a disc of boiling wax: You named it “Nebra”, I call it Magic.
Funnel and wax moulded in soil. 100 cm diameter
Sculpture created on the grounds of Binderburg Castle on the site of the treasure trove of royal tombs, Jena, Thüringen GE.

Josefina Valdovinos. 29 July 2023

The action was carried out on the grounds of Binderburg Castle on the former site of the royal tombs. Metal casts and an old piece of jewellery were found when the circle used to hold the boiling wax was dug out. The reaction of pure wax and ferrous earth produced a lavender-blue colour during the wax casting.
In the Middle Ages and later in the Renaissance, the funnel symbolised the passing on of knowledge. When the tip of the funnel is pointing upwards, it symbolises the flight of ideas into the sky, madness.
